WHY YOGA?

In our fast-paced world, slowing down takes courage & loads of practice, doesn't it? We believe that starting young helps to cultivate this essential skill.  JAYA is Shakti's newest addition, our long-awaited youth academy. We're honored to be at Magellan offering yoga after school. We're looking forward to an engaging and playful way of exploring this holistic practice. Our young yogis will be introduced to foundational postures for standing, twisting and forward/back bending. Both sessions include age & skill-appropriate yoga asanas; breathing and meditation practice as well as yoga-inspired art & story time that support the core values of our academy.

Session 1 

Meets on Thursdays 3:35 - 4:35pm    

Sept 8, 15, 22 & Oct 6, 20, 27 
No class 9/29  

Starting a new school year is exciting but no doubt comes with a bit of adjusting for our young ones. With this in mind, Session 1 will incorporates Hatha yoga practices that support the mind and body in feeling settled and grounded. In these weekly session we will work on our strength, balance and focus to help us be and do our very best. Yoga is a great way to welcome a new season, more learning and growing our circle of friends!

Session 2 

Meets on Thursdays 3:35 - 4:35pm 

Nov 3, 10, 17 & Dec 1, 8 (5 Classes)


The benefits of yoga are enhanced when aligned with the season. As we move into cooler temperatures, our young yogis will enjoy Vinyasa style yoga by learning to synchronize breath with movement & flowing sequences. Together we will explore heart-opening postures and enjoy playful balance challenges. Let's have fun and build warmth and strength. Session 2 also includes an introduction to positive affirmations and intentions.

From my experience, Annelize is amazing in the wellness and private yoga areas of her practice. After enjoying enjoyed several sessions over a six-month period, I found that each was personalized for me so I received maximum benefit for my issues and concerns. As part of the sessions, I benefitted from her gentle introduction to Ayurvedic dietary suggestions, which were new to me. In addition, recent medical issues made it difficult for me to continue to routinely participate in standard yoga classes, so during my recovery, Annelize’s coaching in the one-on-one yoga sessions helped me with necessary modifications and pacing. Annelize’s training and experience have provided her with an abundance of knowledge that translated well to what I’ve needed, and she never made me feel out of my depth. She followed up my sessions with additional information and checked in to be sure I was doing well with my “homework.” I hesitate to leave this review because as other folks find out about this gem of a practitioner, I may have difficulty scheduling more time with her.
